A laymans review of the laws in Queensland (QLD) Australia in regard to recording conversations as a means of ensuring your own safety, protection and justice

You can legally record a private conversation if you are a party to it. QLD is unique because the Invasion of Privacy Act is older and less restrictive than other states regarding "listening devices."
Unlike Victoria, the prohibition on sharing recordings in QLD is looser. Generally, you can share the recording if you are a party to the conversation. However, defamatory or malicious publication can still lead to civil legal trouble.
Family Court Warning: Even though QLD law permits the recording, Federal Family Courts (which operate Australia-wide) may still refuse to hear it or criticise you for making it.
