In Australia government funded and supported institutions, and their clergy bound by doctrine and oaths of allegiance to a foreign Vatican sovereign daily act with impunity to pervert justice, minimise and cloak rape in eternal secrecy, prioritizing papal loyalty over truth, victims and national law.

Empowering People to Question, Learn, and Lead: Embracing a Living Bill of Rights

Imagine a world where the rules that protect our freedoms aren't locked away in musty old books, gathering dust while politicians twist them for their own gain.

Imagine an Australia where the rules that protect our freedoms aren't locked away layer upon layer of sophistry and deception, gathering dust while politicians twist them for their own gain. Instead, picture those rules as a living, breathing document—one that we, the people of Australia, revisit, debate, and update together on a regular basis. This is the idea of a Living Bill of Rights. It's not just a list of rights; it's a tool for everyday folks like you and me to stay sharp, stay involved, and keep our government in check.

Let me share a powerful thought from Carl Sagan, a brilliant scientist who loved exploring the stars but also cared deeply about how we live here on Earth. He said: "It's a way of thinking. A way of skeptically interrogating the universe with a fine understanding of human fallibility. If we are not able to ask skeptical questions, to interrogate those who tell us that something is true, to be skeptical of those in authority, then we're up for grabs for the next charlatan political or religious who comes ambling along." Sagan was echoing what Thomas Jefferson, an American Founding Father and the third president of the United States believed too: It's not enough to write down rights in a Constitution. People need to be educated and practice skepticism, or else the government ends up running us instead of the other way around.

This is exactly why a Living Bill of Rights is such a game-changer. Think of it like this: Right now, our Bill of Rights is like a family heirloom—precious, but rarely touched or questioned. A Living Bill of Rights would change that. Every few years, or maybe even more often, we'd all get a chance to review it. Schools could teach it with real discussions. Communities could hold town halls. Even online polls or apps could let teenagers vote on updates, while making it easy for elderly folks to join via simple phone calls or mailed ballots. It's about making rights active, not passive.

Why does this matter for building skepticism? Skepticism is just a fancy word for healthy doubt—asking "Is this true?" or "Why should I believe you?" In a Living Bill of Rights system, we'd practice this every day. For example, if a leader says, "We need to limit free speech for safety," we'd debate it openly. Teenagers could research facts on their phones and share why they agree or disagree. Grandparents could draw from their life experiences to spot when something smells fishy. This isn't just talk; it's hands-on learning. It educates everyone, from kids in high school to seniors in retirement homes, turning us all into informed citizens who aren't easily fooled.

And here's the real power: It puts us in charge. Right now, our governments often feel like fancy shows—elections every few years, but behind the scenes, it's the same old tricks. Politicians promise one thing and do another, big companies pull strings, and we end up with systems that look democratic but are really just dressed-up frauds. Misrepresentation is everywhere: Laws get twisted, votes get ignored, and accountability? Forget it. We've never truly entrusted the people with direct control, so the facade keeps cracking—think scandals, inequality, and trust hitting rock bottom.

But with a Living Bill of Rights, accountability comes from direct experience. We'd see how decisions get made, vote on changes to rights like privacy or equality, and hold leaders responsible if they ignore us. No more charlatans slipping through; we'd interrogate them with facts and questions. It's like giving everyone a seat at the table, not just the powerful few. Teenagers would grow up knowing their voice matters, building confidence to challenge authority. The frail elderly, with their wisdom from years lived, could ensure history's lessons aren't forgotten. Everyone wins because we're all educated, practiced, and involved at every level—from local neighborhoods to national debates.

Sagan and Jefferson were right: Without skepticism and education, we're vulnerable. A Living Bill of Rights fixes that by making democracy real, not a show. It's time to wake up and demand this change. Let's educate ourselves, practice our doubts, and run the government like it was always meant to be—by the people, for the people. What do you say? Are you ready to make rights come alive?

2023 Findings in Spain found that 0.6% of the population of Spain had been sexually abused by Roman Catholic priests and laity. Up to 50 million alive on any day who have been raped or abused by Catholic clergy &/or Catholic laity

Current world population is 8 billion - 0.6% = 48 million alive today who are likely to have been raped by Catholics globally.

"This is a matter for the church and I respect the internal judgements of the church. I don't stand outside the church and provide them with public lectures in terms of how they should behave. I've noted carefully what his Holiness has said in the United States. Obviously that was a source of great comfort and healing in the United States. I'm like all Australians very much looking forward to what the Pope has to say here in Australia as well, as I am to my own conversation with the Pope later this morning."
