The inability of a child to thrive in a Constitutionally protected God based perpetual threat and rape culture is not a fault of the child; however it does become their odious responsibility upon reaching adulthood to resolve the harms done to them. The Christian religion at its core is a toxic mechanism whereby intergenerational trauma is kept alive, active, and deeply embedded in each new generation, as it has done over the past 2,000+ years.

in the way we see faces in everyday objects
What an interesting study; it was one that I got a few interesting connections from when I apply a trauma informed look at it via circumstances of CPTSD. As an autodidact with a lifelong desire to understand the environment that I live and lived in I feel there is a way to describe how this can regularly arise as a response to early trauma.
Many children are still brought up with that 'scare them' seeking attitude where the developing baby is exposed to a doll approaching it too fast and followed almost immediately with a grinning dad shouting "Boo" and him getting so excited from being able to elicit a full blown shock and startle response from the child he says he loves. A few of those and there is a pattern set that is associated with partially processed faces.
In the instance of Jesus appearing that same process is at play with both seeking to match the vague pattern only for those who had experiences like above to be informed by the repetitions of the experience that they are about to go into a panic of some kind as the "Boo" part of their history has educated them to the point where their safety system kicks in (trauma response) and continues them on their journey of finding safety.
Most startle response seeking Booing is male which brings the added stress of a deeper and louder voice than the accustomed mother/female voice.
In our society we still appear to blame those injured children in my first example for the automatic responses of their self preservation systems and that still confuses and conflates our democracy and justice systems still today.
In the second example, there is hell and punishment, eternal life, human sacrifice and your very existence in the moment to contend with and the boundaries are out there somewhere labelled "Anything is possible when your base is Constitutionally protected mythology."
I think there is more to be learned from this.

Current world population is 8 billion - 0.6% = 48 million alive today who are likely to have been raped by Catholics globally.
The church protected the perpetrators, not the victims
