The inability of a child to thrive in a Constitutionally protected God based perpetual threat and rape culture is not a fault of the child; however it does become their odious responsibility upon reaching adulthood. The Christian religion at its core is a toxic mechanism whereby intergenerational trauma is kept alive, active, and deeply embedded in each new generation, as it has done over the past 2,000+ years.

How an AI would fix the Catholic Church's Sexual Abuse Issues

The clutches of sexual abuse within religious institutions, primarily the Church, have left lasting scars on countless individuals. However, the emergence of movements like #MeToo and #ChurchToo have acted as a clarion call, igniting a discourse that has long been shrouded in silence. While the storm has been brewing over the years, the lack of transparency and accountability within the Church exacerbated the issue, creating an environment where justice seemed elusive.
In the United States, the clerical sexual abuse crisis was segmented into distinct waves. A striking case that marked the onset ofthe crisis was that of Father Gilbert Gauthe in Louisiana, who molested at least 37 boys across four different parishes between 1984 and 1993 1. The crisis didn't stop there; a 2018 grand jury report revealed decades of criminal offenses against minors by Catholic priests in six Pennsylvania dioceses, prompting other states to launch their investigations 2 .
Professor John P. Beal, a canon law expert, highlighted how the lack of transparency in church governance allowed these lapses in accountability to go unrecognized and unaddressed for decades 3. This lack of oversight is not only a national issue. Globally, there have been 18,565 children abused by 6,721 priests as reported by US bishops alone between 1950 and 2016 4. The epidemic of abuse reached a point where the Archdiocese of San Francisco had to file for bankruptcy due to the weight of over 500 lawsuits concerning childhood sexual abuse 5.
Amid the dark clouds, the #MeToo and #ChurchToo movements emerged as beams of hope, emboldening survivors to share their stories and demand justice. The #MeToo movement, initiated by actress Alyssa Milano post the Harvey Weinstein scandal, quickly resonated within religious communities, birthing the #ChurchToo movement. Spearheaded by Hannah Paasch and Emily Joy, #ChurchToo propelled a discourse on sexual abuse within church settings on social media, transcending borders to become a global outcry for justice 6.
These movements spotlighted the grave need for transparency and accountability within religious institutions. Emily Joy Allison, whose story triggered the #ChurchToo movement, emphasized how the sexual ethic preached in conservative churches bred shame and silence, contributing to the perpetuation of abuse 7.
The journey towards transparency, accountability, and justice within religious institutions is far from over, yet the discourse sparked by these movements marks a significant stride towards unveiling the truth, honoring the stories of survivors, and preventing further abuse. The path forward demands an unwavering commitment from religious institutions to foster a culture of openness, accountability, and a relentless pursuit of justice to ensure the sanctity and safety of all its members.
2023 Findings in Spain found that 0.6% of the population of Spain had been sexually abused by Roman Catholic priests and laity. Up to 50 million alive on any day who have been raped or abused by Catholic clergy &/or Catholic laity
Current world population is 8 billion - 0.6% = 48 million alive today who are likely to have been raped by Catholics globally.
The church protected the perpetrators, not the victims
"This is a matter for the church and I respect the internal judgements of the church. I don't stand outside the church and provide them with public lectures in terms of how they should behave. I've noted carefully what his Holiness has said in the United States. Obviously that was a source of great comfort and healing in the United States. I'm like all Australians very much looking forward to what the Pope has to say here in Australia as well, as I am to my own conversation with the Pope later this morning." Kevin Rudd, Prime Minister of Australia, 17 July 2008. more
