Has the commission simply furthered one of the universal first wishes of everyday Christians when they have been undeniably confronted by the abuses of the religion that they had themselves been indoctrinated into in their own childhood.
"If only they knew", "if only they understood", "if only they did the right thing".
In 2017 we have a much better ability to interrogate the data; add to that the ability to draw realistic understandings of process that have run for long amounts of time. The Catholic and Christian Churches and indeed all form of dogmatic religion can be called into question in many different ways. For example a review of the processes and outcomes of inquiries over the past 100 years help us to develop a picture of how as a democracy Australia has traditionally protected the vulnerable, its children and how justice has been defined as a result of those many inquiries. The Royal Commission into Institutional responses is simply the most recent of a long long history of prior abuses involving religion and children.
Could it be possible that in light of the great deal of research that the Royal Commission has done as in previous inquiries has in a manner provided the Churches with the knowledge of how they should not engage in sexual conduct with children.
Over the few short months of the year 2017 we have learned that clergy at every level and it seems the entire congregation are ever so grateful for the Royal Commission through undertaking the scientific work that the Church had been and continues to refuse to acknowledge preferring instead to cling to the wealth and position that an unbridled level of control across entire populations of humans as the Catholic and other churches have done for a long long time.
The depth of control and management can be seen in the weaknesses of the Australian Media when it came its turn to response to the rape of children in the Community by those who have for centuries set and dictated the morals and mores of our society; they were afforded a highly privileged place in our communities and they proved themselves to be unsafe when it comes to children. The privilege the country bestowed on religions such as the Catholic Church left us with some good examples of architecture in its cathedrals; more importantly it saw us with the care of every level of our being in the ultimate control of the Church hierarchies while being funded by the government.
Our current services provisioning systems provide a disproportionate range of services and online in a slightly different way from that still in operation in Ireland where government wants to put human well-being services in the hands of Catholic nuns who were responsible for the sexual and other abuses towards children with many of the survivors still yet to be acknowledge while the nuns financial business gets operate in a tax free environment and the nuns remain able to conduct business in the hundreds of millions or perhaps billions of dollars rolled around to it from forces at work within our government. Here in Australia it seems that it is impolite to speak on issue such as this yet they are important as the future safety of children is on the line here in Australia.
It seems that perhaps finally in light of the many previous involvements, the ever longer lists of apologies and the same abuse of our legal system and the same abuse of our financial and government systems. After all those are the core elements of the cover up that has assisted in the rape of so many children and the denial of justice for the incomprehensible suffering of those affected.
One of those continuing quirks is the silencing way that the Australian press and News Media has worked against children through the omissions of past failures put aside with a tag on each religious point in their belief system carrying a warning label that states that it is harmful the free development of children to teach them in ways that cause them lifelong fear through the accumulated history of toxic power structures that have survived as religious doctrines and customs and need to be discarded unless there is a sound scientific base to it simply because it distorts the child's mind and strips them of their right to be free to reach adulthood without this particular form of psychological slavery that has unfortunately survived the Bronze age.
The lack of press writing on the many active discussion gong on in many Catholic communities today are not being covered and this is just how the bishops would want that afterall they have a business to run and many lawyers to pay so that they can continue to do high value government contract for the management of the well being of every level of the Australian Community in religiously operated facilities. Religion based charity, health and education has not until recently even paused to consider the rights of the children (past, present and future).
In this centuries long battle that has fortunately persisted to the point where the human rights of today's children taking precedence over the main barbaric wants of a primitive hierarchical controlling and abusing culture that has passed its use by date. Don't see much of that sort of conversation in the press these days do you.
Where are the press articles on the outrage of the parishioners? Few and far between it seems just like the bishops would like it.
Only when we acknowledge the truth we know.

John Brown was born in Yea Victoria 3717 on 27 December, 1948. John grew up in Yea, he went to the Catholic school on The Parade Yea and then a final year at Yea High school in Station Street. He undertook an apprenticeship as a Hand and Machine Compositor/Linotype Mechanic at the local newspaper The Yea Chronicle who recently declined to publish John's story. John left Yea after realising that the proprietor and local policeman Bill Ellison along with other local Catholics in his hometown and surrounds at that time were well aware of his abuse and of the rape and abuse of other children in Yea and district and were aware of the many events surrounding the murder of Herbert Henry Kemp of Yea ...... read more and more and more and Site Map
Investigation of an unsolved murder in 1962 can no longer be investigated according to police taskforce SANO because a different pedophile Catholic clergyman who raped a child at age 8 is now dead. As a result of the dead rapist being unconnected with the murder Victorian police remain clue less.
Later in life John married in Toowoomba only to begin the most bizarre period in his life as he learned that he wasnow related by marriage to the then bishop of Toowoomba Bill Morris. Morris was the head of the bishops conference at that time and was the "Go to" person in the country for survivors of childhood sexual abuse by Catholic clergy and yet I was never able to get a time or a conversation with the bishop. I did get conversations or connection with a number of Catholic organisations with varying degrees of weirdness some of which I have written about in my blog The FAQyMe gene & the lifelong search for safe, moral and ethical social justice, the Human Right to a trauma informed and evidence based recovery and social re-engagement unhindered by the fear, anger, blockages or projections from other people's gods .
John is author and publisher of #TraumaTheory and regularly blogs at The FAQyMe gene on his journey, recovery and the horror and the scale of this global issue.
John's personal story is just another from the hundreds of millions of other stories across the globe eminating from the human rights abuses and ongoing horrors of the systemic rape, abuses of trust, fraud, deception and cover up in the global Catholic and other religions. Like those others his "issues in life" arose and remain simply because his abusers as a child were just like theirs in that their rapists and abusers were Catholic or Catholic or Christian clergy and they too remain ineligible or unable to have their human rights upheld in their lifetime..
